Preposterous priorities – politicians preferred pastry

Newsroom writer Aaron Smale, in an article triggered by the High Court’s ruling on whether a sitting MP must respond to a summons to appear before the Waitangi Tribunal, reports on issues underpinning the tribunal’s urgent inquiry into the Government’s intention to remove Section 7AA from the Oranga Tamariki Act.

He notes that the Act Party insists we should be rid of any “race-based” policy.

This is one of the main reasons Act is arguing Section 7AA should be repealed.

Sadly for our enlightenment, it seems he couldn’t persuade political party leaders to talk with him about race issues during the election campaign:

Act leader David Seymour has said the obsession with race is corrosive. But Seymour seemed to talk a great deal about race during the election campaign, but wouldn’t front up to an interview with me when I requested to talk about some of his statements on this topic. Neither did Luxon. Or Hipkins. There were more important engagements, like photo-ops of eating sausage rolls.

These leaders need to review their priorities.  They scoffed sausage rolls for their own political publicity purposes instead of chewing the fat with Aaron Smale (which perhaps would have enhanced his byline with the tasty goodies produced by his grilling).
